The Ojo-Carons Foundation was established by Drs. Akin and Mary Ojo-Carons to create avenues for the endurable resourcing of medical initiatives in the local and international communities. The foundation focuses on a range of initiatives, including fostering the development of sustainable financial, educational, and technical sources to hospitals and clinics in underserved communities. In addition, the foundation supports educating and training medical practitioners to develop their skills while providing specialized care within their communities. Through their work with the foundation, Drs. Akinwunmi and Mary Ojo-Carons aim to create a sustainable source of healthcare and education in underserved communities, with the ultimate goal of improving the overall health and well-being of these populations. Their commitment to teaching and providing opportunities for long-term solutions sets the foundation apart and reflects their dedication to creating lasting change in the communities they serve.
Dr. Akinwunmi Ojo-Carons is a board certified, highly skilled, and experienced urologist and surgeon with a passion for providing exceptional care to patients from diverse backgrounds. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2002 and earned his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2008. Dr. Ojo-Carons went on to complete his residency in Surgery/Urology at Northshore-LIJ Medical Center, Hofstra University in 2015.
With his specialized training and expertise, Dr. Ojo-Carons is dedicated to addressing a range of urinary tract conditions and disorders, including voiding dysfunction, pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, and overactive bladder. Dr. Ojo-Carons also completed a fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at the Metro Urology at Minnesota under the tutelage of Dr Steven Siegel in 2016. He has honed his expertise in the diagnosis and management of complex pelvic floor disorders.
As an active member of the American Urological Association, the Society of Urodynamics Female Pelvic Medicine &Urogenital Reconstruction, the Endourological Society, the Société Internationale d’Urologie, and the American Medical Association, Dr. Ojo-Carons stays up-to-date on the latest research and techniques in his field. He has contributed significantly to the advancement of urology through his research work, including papers published in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at professional meetings.
In addition to his clinical and research work, Dr. Ojo-Carons is passionate about global health medicine and has pursued additional training in this area. He completed multiple Global Health trip and initiative in the Department of Urology at Justinien Hospital in Haiti in 2014, where he gained invaluable experience providing care in a resource-limited setting. Dr. Ojo-Carons travels back to his home country of Nigeria frequently to open up more avenues to serve the international community.

Dr. Mary Ojo-Carons is a women’s healthcare expert, researcher, author, and consultant in the areas of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and reproductive science. As a board certified OBGYN, she is the founder of EvoScient Gynecology. Dr. Ojo-Carons has previously practiced medicine in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the Hennepin County Medical Center and at the James J. Peters Veteran Affairs Medical Center in New York. Dr. Ojo-Carons conjointly served as a physician at the Mount Sinai Hospital System, New York where she also attended residency. During her tenure at Mount Sinai, Dr. Ojo-Carons was presented with the Outstanding Teacher of Obstetrics and Gynecology Award. Her educational approach to patient care was also recognized as the recipient of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award.
Prior to residency, Ojo-Carons earned her Doctor of Medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. Her academic diligence earned her the Georgetown University National Medical Association Dean’s Award and the Georgetown University Hospital Obstetrics and Gynecology Department Award. Dr. Ojo-Carons received a Master of Biomedical Science from Rutgers University (formerly The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey) and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina
Dr. Ojo-Carons still serves her academic community as an Assistant Professor of Ob/Gyn at Eastern Virgina Medical School and as a Georgetown University Alumni liaison, helping the next generation of graduating physicians. Her other memberships include The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, The International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health, The Sexual Medicine Society of North America, The International Society of Sexual Medicine, The American College of Healthcare Executives, The American Medical Association, North American Menopause Society, and The American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology.
A believer in patient advocacy, Dr. Ojo-Carons utilizes her daily platform to provide revolutionary care. Highly rated by patients as an excellent communicator, Dr. Ojo-Carons has mastered educating women about their bodies to be easily retained and comprehended. Dr. Ojo-Carons also strives to empower physicians with the tools they need to provide complete care for their patients. It is her desire to be a bridge builder, filling the gap between the clinical front lines and governance. Her belief is that with not only a seat at the table but also a microphone at the at the podium, the voices of physicians and patients can join together to be echoed all the way up to policy makers to provide quality, vested, care for all people.
